80 artists around the world got involved to show their idea of 'Trust', and through their work was the aim to learn more about the theme and inspire viewers to make their own decisions about what 'Trust' means to them.

"..demonstrate the power of images as a communicative device to overcome language barriers and avoid established pre-conceptions."

How have we as a society developed from being open to judging everything so skeptically, what has lead us to this position? what influences are on us to think this way? (heavily governed? technology? tv? surveillance? laws?)

Are we infact just trying to achieve the perfect society, in which case, who has the right to give us such an aim and to know what the perfect society is?

Do it without thinking of critics

"We believe that expression should not be fade by the fear of being criticized by others. To illustrate this maxim, we created some large scale types by using only white cloths, paper and thread on natural landscapes as background."

People that walked around the city of Percé would see the whole series of images. I think the concept behind these pieces is interesting, because it's true, people shouldn't feel restricted to express themselves in fear that other people will criticise their opinion/work, afterall our expression in different ways make us who we are.

Of course it is obvious that this is a production of a typeface, but if put into a different context entirely there could be a whole new meaning that could be taken from it.

In the context of society, it shows our despondence not to conform with the regulations we are supposed to follow, in a world where everyone is trying to be different and unique, to break these laws of living and stretch them ever further.

Block Stories

40 x 40 cm blocks that have been painted on each side.

The idea behind this is so that people can move the blocks around and re-order them to build their own story, therefore every story is going to be unique considering everyone will interpret every image in their own way in the first place, and then also interpret a entirely different story with them.

I would like to know the inspiration behind this, it's not particularly the pieces that I find the most interesting, it's the concept behind them and the meanings they produce.

The images are halved with an object that relates in some way, but it kind off gives a contradicting message, both objects with very different uses when you think about it yet each halved image can be related with the other half.

A wordless book about a meaningful life.. based on a visual exploration on storytelling of 24 moments of his day over 7 days.

It's interesting to see which subjects he has decided to focus on, where he could of chosen anything, he chose to use abstract images that could mean something different to everyone, but used in this story we can almost see the journey he has gone on.

He has also shown us his own emotions within these, such as the third image where the words "bla bla" are seen, the words are confined within tight spaces, showing tension and an uncomfortable feeling towards this.

Mail Me Art

Mail Me Art is a British-based project, run by Darren Di Lieto, where a large collection of artistic work is sent in the form of mail, in some way incorporating the address. Along the way they would pick up scratches, stamp marks and generally that unintentional damage that would add to the artwork.

The deadline has just passed for the current project, but would love to take part in the next one.

I have found these broadcasts a great opportunity to get to know the designer himself, which is just as important as the work itself, you can really see where his thought processes and inspiration arise from, and the interesting part is that this process is different for everyone.

Looking through this series of photos of people's studios, it's amazing how clean and almost blank some places are, I see a studio to be something where a place for inspiration is.

I suppose there would be little distractions in a clean studio, and being surrounded by the same stuff all the time (unless you change it) could possibly become uninspiring after some time.

I've always followed James White on Signalnoise.com and he has just finished a live broadcast on ustream.tv where he has been answering live questions from viewers.

He gives his opinions to many different design related questions from viewers watching the broadcast, most of which is very much related to what I want to gain in experience.

Some interesting points picked up while watching:

Pricing and time, client satisfaction & working with others.

Inspiration - Although he lives in quite a small area and workplace this does not limit his ability find inspiration, power of the internet, loves retro, things that were awesome when he was a kid, in the morning a cup of coffee and flickr, inspiration is everywhere.

Advice to designers who want to break into the industry - consider the type of work, type of clients, don't limit yourself 9-5, normal priorities after education is generally #1 job in design agency #2 freelance, do your own stuff, don't stop, don't ever think you need a client to do something, you be your own boss/specification, grow portfolio + your only going to get better at what you do

You can't count on a client to teach you new things, unique touch doing your own stuff, if you paint show them your paintings etc, show them what you love doing, never limit your portfolio

Design process - sketch 40 little thumbnails, 30 secs to do each thumbnail which include type logos flare etc, then onto illustrator to produce little colour studies.

Do employers look at education experience rather than quality of work - Ultimately you might have the best diploma in the world but the work speaks for itself - portfolios bark louder than paper, depends on agency.

The use of keeping all images the same seems to work well, monotone?, using them in pieces such as booklets etc. seems to keep a nice consistency throughout, rather than the normal multi coloured pictures you would generally get.

With these ink blots, I can start to make relations to objects in the world that I would have never thought of combining before.

Taking the pincers of a beetle, horns and face shape of a bull's head, these ink blots start to mean something.

Even if I don't end up using this concept, I don't see why I can't use ink blots to create the unknown. It's a bit like a word association list, but grabbing something completely out of nowhere and developing that image or idea into something you would never of thought of before.

Tree Prints

Came about this while looking through other blogs. Done by a guy called Bryan Nash Gill, ink is rolled out on the tree stump, a piece of paper is placed over, and pressing down it imprints the texture of the wood on the surface of the paper.

Many ways this could be reproduced differently. I like the uniqueness of every print, as every tree would have a different print.

Printing On Newspaper

A produced piece celebrating 10 years of The Kunsthaus Bregenz, which is an exhibition space for international contemporary art.

Interesting design because of the way it's been printed on newspapers, which gives the piece more depth.

Areas where there is no print brings through the newspaper images and writing. The even borders of newspaper imagery left by the black boxes gives it some form.

1920s-50s postcard collection of the less popular side of postcards. The best bit about them I like is the stamped effect, bits of type show up stronger in different areas where the stamp hasn't got an equal cover of ink on it.

As it is customary in Japan to send New Year's greeting cards with an animal sign of the zodiac for the upcoming year printed on them, they chose this as the motif with the hope that the whole world would be blessed with peace.

The use of the countries to create the shape of animals links it well with the concept behind it. In the movie you can see how each country fit's in with the next animal.

This table lists 100 of the most popular, influential and notorious typefaces today. In the style of all the thousands of 'Periodic Table of Elements' posters hanging in schools and homes around the world.

Most people will be aware of the use of the original table, therefore this wouldn't mean much had there not already been a table that is as well known as it is.

Typography: Le Vide Papier

'Le vide papier' which translates to 'the empty paper'.

Although it's in French, I find this an interesting concept to get the user to interact with the design, enabling them to take the type away using the transparent sheet, seems rather pointless yet I like it.

It could also be easily used for various other applications.

Printing: Old Computer Stock Paper

If this was printed on ordinary paper without the perforated holes that were found on the sides of old computer stock paper, this wouldn't be as appealing.

Although in some area's writing overlaps images, this just adds to it's fascination. It reminds me of some sort of research page, a much interesting way to present it none the less.
