Development Land

Out with the old, in with the new

We encounter many objects of which once had diverse purposes for their existence on a daily basis. Sometimes we are faced with situations placed upon us to decide whether to maintain that history for future generations, or to make use of the opening to build something new. The purpose of this ‘something new’ is to replace what was once there, but it can also be to build upon the heritage that already exists.

Laying our Tracks

Finding our way

Our reliance on the availability of travel networks has become that of expectations and assumptions. We have become heavily accustomed to the belief that there will always be a track available for our need of reaching our destination in the shortest possible distance, this continuous requirement results in us taking shortcuts or expanding the availability of these travel networks to save time in the future.

Universal Connection

A direct line of contact

Communication methods have become one of the most important factors for us to be able to achieve our goals of today. Our need to be connected to others in diverse areas has become increasingly valuable to society. Due to this we can question that humans are losing touch with the real world and face to face human interaction is displacing itself from society.

Thinking things through

Waiting for things to happen

We live by time and we plan our lives through the continuous unlimited flow of time. With an extensive volume of knowledge and new skills to be learnt there is no justification to why the use of our free time can’t be constructive, allowing time to pass is something that cannot be retrieved.

Multiple Homes

Accessibility and ease of mobility

Advancements in the availability of many different transport creations has allowed us the access to a much larger and dynamic range of methods to get to where we need to go. The ease of availability has become a huge influence towards our ability to exist in many different societies in which we call home.

Rise of Expertise

Research and development for wider knowledge

Rapidly growing research and evolutions in development of using our resources effectively has lead to wider and greater availability of knowledge, each development is a documentation of our ability to advance. These continuous advancements help us to develop communities to the next stage.

Deserted

Unattainable

Our dependence on services that we have an extremely high reliance on has sometimes been restricted or in some cases rendered completely unattainable. In such events we have to find new ways to find our way round these obstacles, but occasionally there is little alternative and we are left with none or little control over their availability in the future.

Regulation

With the reality that surveillance is increasingly used amongst the population, we are constantly required to perform under the scrutiny of supervision. Civilians are viewed as suspects and the surveillance is the cause of unnecessary pressure, so yet although helping to keep things in order deprives us of our rightful freedom.

Conventional

In the fast changing of today’s societies it is easy to displace control from our younger generations. With the continuously growing of information available, it is transforming a once closed culture into a free world of individuals endorsing many to challenge the regards of others, which in turn has the potential to damage the traditional upbringing methods of the past.

Benefits

We humans all benefit greatly from the creations we make, which allow us to progress and succeed in everyday life. Our experiments we perform on the creatures around us, play important roles to help find causes and cures. Yet do we take note of the effects these have, not only on ourselves, but the world around us.

(Pictured: a deformed frog, a symbol of our destruction to nature, not only due to experiments but our general contamination of the earth that we have caused, such as pollution; ink areas, to show the disperse of the contamination; diagrams + equations, representing the experiments we perform; common frog fact, to go with the image and to show what is the normal, or was the normal.)

Organic

Everything in the world is effectively natural because it all comes from the same place, you can't make anything without the substances to do so, it's just how 'we' humans have used the materials around us to combine wonderful creations, some maybe causing startling consequences.

An example of how completely opposite objects show relations. Tree's, innocent, peaceful, harmless etc. Explosion, loud, dangerous, harmful etc.

With these ink blots, I can start to make relations to objects in the world that I would have never thought of combining before.

Taking the pincers of a beetle, horns and face shape of a bull's head, these ink blots start to mean something.

Even if I don't end up using this concept, I don't see why I can't use ink blots to create the unknown. It's a bit like a word association list, but grabbing something completely out of nowhere and developing that image or idea into something you would never of thought of before.
